Compare
Factual comparisons with the other deposit apps, written to help you choose, including when the other app is the better fit. Competitor details are as of September 2026; check their current listing before deciding.
How to read these comparisons
They are written to help you choose, which sometimes means choosing the other app.
What we compare
Pricing model, how the balance is collected, what happens when a card fails, whether fulfilment is held, what the customer receives, and which order types are covered. Those are the things that decide whether a deposit app works for a given shop.
- Flat monthly price against subscription plus a percentage
- Automatic charge, payment link, or both
- Native Shopify hold, app-side flag, or none
What we do not do
We do not guess at features we have not seen. Where a competitor's listing does not say, the table says check listing rather than inventing an answer. Competitor details are as of September 2026.
- No invented pricing: check the listing for current figures
- Each page says when the other app is the better fit
- Nothing here is a review; it is a feature comparison
What Balance Due is
A deposit at checkout and a balance collected later, using Shopify's own purchase option, with the hold, the retries, the reminders and the customer page included on every plan. It does not do instalments, POS or draft orders, split cards or shared payments.
- One thing done thoroughly rather than four done lightly
- GBP billing through Shopify, from free
- UK support by email within one working day
The fastest comparison
Install the app on a development store, create one plan, and place a deposit order with Shopify's Bogus Gateway. Watch the schedule email arrive, see the hold on the order, mark it ready and watch the balance charge. Twenty minutes tells you more than any table.
Only one app should attach purchase options to a given product. If you are trialling two, use different products or a development store.
Questions
Can I switch from another deposit app mid-flight?
Orders already placed with the other app keep their schedule there; Balance Due only manages orders placed on its own plans. Run both until the old orders are paid, then remove the old app.
Do all of these apps use Shopify's native checkout?
Most create purchase options through Shopify's deferred purchase options. Some present a widget on the product page instead. Each page says which.
