Terms of service
Plain terms for using the Balance Due app on your Shopify store.
The service
Balance Due is a Shopify app that lets your store offer deposit and instalment purchase options and that collects outstanding balances on your behalf by instructing Shopify to charge a saved payment method or by sending your customer a Shopify payment link. It also sends payment messages to your customers and places fulfilment holds on orders, according to the settings you choose.
Payments and money
Balance Due never holds, receives or transfers funds. Every payment is processed by Shopify and your payment provider under your agreements with them, and every charge Balance Due instructs is one you configured through a plan or an action in the app. Whether a saved card can be charged later depends on your payment provider and on Shopify; where it cannot, Balance Due uses payment links instead. You are responsible for the deposit terms you present to customers, for refunds and cancellations, and for complying with consumer law in the places you sell.
Fees
Plans and text top-ups are billed by Shopify through the Shopify Billing API every 30 days in GBP at the prices shown on the pricing page at the time you subscribe. Paid plans include a 14-day free trial once per store. Text top-ups are non-refundable but do not expire. Unused monthly text allowances do not roll over. We may change prices with 30 days' notice inside the app.
Your responsibilities
- Keep your Shopify payment settings compatible with deferred purchase options (automatic or manual capture).
- Tell customers clearly, before they buy, how much is due now, when the balance is due and what happens if it is not paid.
- Handle refunds, disputes and cancellations through Shopify; Balance Due mirrors the order's outstanding amount but does not decide it.
- Use text messaging only where you have a lawful basis to contact the customer.
Availability and support
We aim for the app to be available at all times but do not guarantee it. Balance collection is designed to catch up automatically after any outage: a missed due date is charged at the next run, never skipped. Support is by email at support@balance-due.com with replies within one working day.
Data
We process shop, order and customer data only as needed to run the service, as described in the privacy policy. We never receive card numbers. When you uninstall, your data is kept until Shopify sends its data-removal request 48 hours later, then deleted.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Balance Due is provided as is and our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period. We are not liable for unpaid balances, chargebacks, declined cards, provider or Shopify outages, or losses that follow from how you configured a plan.
Ending the agreement
You can cancel at any time from the app or by uninstalling. We may suspend or end the service for a store that breaches these terms or Shopify's policies, giving notice where practical. Open balances on your orders remain owed to you by your customers regardless.
General
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. We may update them and will show the date of the latest version here; continued use after a change is acceptance of it.
