Balance Deposits for kitchens and joinery
A fitted kitchen is weeks of manufacture and a fitting date the customer has been waiting on. Staged payments keep the job funded and the final balance in before the van leaves.
The usual plan
Joinery and kitchen businesses usually stage it: a deposit on order, a payment when manufacture starts or midway, and the balance before fitting. In Balance Due that is an instalment plan: for example 30% deposit, then two monthly payments, with the last one landing before the fitting date. Smaller jobs, a single wardrobe or a run of shelving, suit a simple deposit with the balance when ready.
Example: £9,000 kitchen, 30% deposit then 2 monthly instalments. £2,700 at checkout, £3,150 after 30 days, £3,150 a month later, fitting booked once the last payment clears.
Selling high-ticket jobs through Shopify
Many joinery businesses quote by hand and then want the customer to pay through the site. Create a product for the job (or a generic 'kitchen project' product with the price set per order via a variant), attach the plan and send the customer the link. They check out normally, the deposit is taken and the schedule is set. Balance Due does not take deposits on draft orders, so the order has to come through checkout.
Changes during the build
Extra units, a different worktop, a survey that finds more work: edit the Shopify order and the difference is added to the schedule, due with the next payment. Reductions shrink the final instalment.
The fitting date
Keep the fulfilment hold on. Fitting is booked when the order shows paid in full in the morning digest, and the order cannot be closed as fulfilled in Shopify before that.
Questions
Can payments be tied to milestones rather than dates?
Use dates as the schedule and collect now from the order when a milestone lands early; or set the balance to 'when ready' and mark ready at each stage by splitting the job into more than one product.
Our jobs run over budget. Does the app cope?
Yes, through Shopify order edits. Balance Due follows the order's outstanding amount.
Do customers need an account?
No. Their payment page works from the link in each email or text.
